In most of the Sarasota area, a plain golf cart isn't allowed on public streets. Florida only lets golf carts use roads a city or county has designated for them, and few streets here are designated. For most drivers, a registered low-speed vehicle (LSV) is the street-legal choice. The Ritz Agency insures golf carts and LSVs anywhere in Florida from our office in Ocala.

We are extremely satisfied with the quality of service we received from Jay and Alisha. They worked very hard to find the best Auto and Homeowners insurance. Saved us a bundle.
Great agency that really cares about giving its clients the best value and coverage. Takes the time to explain your coverage and how it works. Great follow up and personalized service. Recommend to anyone.
The Ritz Agency (Allstate) has been wonderful to work with. Had to make a claim, and it was painless! They make every effort to help me with everything I need. Thanks Ritz Agency!

The City of Sarasota's code doesn't designate streets for golf carts, so a plain golf cart isn't street-legal on city streets. A registered, insured LSV can be driven on roads posted at 35 mph or less.
Sarasota County's code doesn't designate any Siesta Key roads for golf carts, so plan on a registered LSV for public roads there. LSVs can be driven on roads posted at 35 mph or less.
North Port's code designates golf cart roads in Holiday Park Recreational District, Lakeside Plantation Community Development District, Renaissance at West Villages and on Plantation Boulevard.
In May 2026, Sarasota County approved golf cart use on designated sidewalks at least 8 feet wide on the south side of US 41 from Lazy River Road to Talon Bay Drive, in the North Port and Warm Mineral Springs area. Local reporting says it still needs approval from the City of North Port and the Florida Department of Transportation before it can be used.
Only where signs allow it. Venice's city code bars golf carts from being driven or parked in city parks, beaches and recreation areas except in areas designated by signs, and sets a 15 mph limit there unless otherwise posted.
Yes. We insure golf carts and LSVs anywhere in Florida, including Sarasota County. See our guide to golf cart and LSV insurance in Florida for the statewide rules.
Local rules last checked October 2026. Cities can change their golf cart rules, so confirm with local police before driving somewhere new.
